Theory about the Hostile Hospital Episode

I’ve been thinking a lot about how messed up The Hostile Hospital is recently, I searched it up on this sub to see what over people’s opinions were on it and came across a post from six years ago asking why Violet was so calm when Olaf put the mask on her.

I’ve always wondered this too, and I think I’ve come to a rough conclusion. I think it had less to do with story or character reasons and more to do with the fact that they were working with a young actress and having her scream/struggle during that scene may not have been the safest idea.

I imagine that being that young and playing a role in which you’re being forcefully put to sleep, so a madman can cut your head off, would’ve been daunting on its own, so throwing a massive struggle into the mix (in front of other actors, no less) may have been nerve wracking or even potentially traumatising.

Studios have to be so careful with kid actors, because there have been cases, especially with horror movies, where they have been traumatised by acting in tense or frightening scenes and while Malina was at an age where she would’ve understood that it was completely fictional, struggling/screaming during that scene could’ve made the scene feel real and frightening for her.

That’s just a theory but I think it’s plausible, especially since there has been cases of actors being traumatised by scenes in the past.
