AITA for posting onto BeReal in a crowded public space.

I’m now currently in a very popular pilgrimage spot in South India. While outside, I got a notification on BeReal to put up a post for the day. For context, BeReal is a new social media platform where we can post once a day, when the app gives a notification at a random time during the day. I immediately took a picture of the market I was in, and posted it onto the app.

A couple of seconds later, one man confronts me saying that I am violating the privacy of his family by clicking pictures in the very public setting. As this is a popular pilgrimage site, a big crowd of people were captured in the picture, and his family was a small part of the crowd. As he voiced his discomfort, I immediately took down the post, and deleted the other pictures of the market I had taken on my phone. In spite of this, he created a scene, threatening to report me to the police and pursue legal action, for privacy violation.

A crowd gathered and all of them took his side, citing me an a-hole and uncultured, for clicking a picture in public, and posting it on social media, even after taking down the post and deleting the pictures off my phone. Not wanted to exacerbate the situation, I apologised over and over, trying to defuse the situation, even though I was well within my rights to click pictures in public areas. This went on for another 15 minutes.

AITA for posting a picture of a public place and posting it on social media?
