Fine with Celiac… until traveling

As title says, I’m actually pretty fine with having Celiac. I have a very supportive family and partner, my partner and I both love to cook at home, and I’m fortunate to live in a city that has many gluten conscious restaurants. Having celiac isn’t a big deal until it’s time to travel when it makes me so anxious I don’t even want to go.

After a lot of back and forth my partner and I decided to book a beach vacation and did a ton of research, settling on an all inclusive known for being good with food allergies. The first 2 days were great! I got to meet all the chefs, saw them take celiac precautions, and ate some great food. And then the dreaded glutening happened….. I ordered something labeled gluten free on the menu and informed my server that I have celiac. Halfway through eating the server comes to inform me that the item isn’t actually gluten free. Alas, my last day of vacation I’m bound to my hotel room and we had to cancel our only (non refundable) excursion of the whole trip. Even though I don’t feel like celiac overshadows my life, I hate that it overshadows big moments like these.
