Should cards have balance changes?
Skip first three paragraphs if you already know or you don't want to read the balance problem in tcgs in general
One of the problem tcgs have is the incremental power of the cards over the years. New cards become more complex and/or powerful compared to old ones. This lead the oldest cards become obsolete or, at least, less relevant than back in their time.
A partially solution for this tcgs are implemented is forbit cards with X age to be played in official games and/or a ban system. This helps to handle the meta and make it more healthy and avoid weird card combos they can't take in consideration due the absurdly big amount of different cards with different effects.
Why companies do this? Afaik, because you can't just reprint all your oldest cards to make an updated version or change slightly the effects of the newest cards to make them more balanced (also they like money and print powerful cards = create the need of buy it to the player).
When I started Pokemon TCG pocket, I have the hope this wouldn't happen. They're making a completely new card game (Inspired of current pokemon cards, but with different attacks and stats) who is virtual, not really attached to any physical card, leaving a chance to buff and nerf cards who are too weak or too broken.
Don't misunderstand me, nowadays I think the game has a healthy meta. All cards can accomplish a function even if they're supposed to be "weak". However, in the future maybe new cards (or old cards too, who knows) needs adjustments after the release.
What do you think about that? I wanted to bring the topic because I didn't see anyone talking about that.
