Bring back Dewey/David Arquette for Scream 7!
With all the other names popping up, Dewey needs to be next.
Hear me out — no one should be resurrected. But it’s clear that S7 is going to be revisiting the past to explore Sid’s trauma. Whether that takes the form of nightmares or Ghostface taunting her with AI and Deepfakes, Dewey should be among them.
Losing Dewey should be a major blow to Sid’s wellbeing (possibly the root cause of her trauma reemerging in advance of S7). Dewey is Sidney’s best friend. He is arguably the only constant in her life (prior to Mark and her children). He is the brother she never had (erm…) and was her protector when she was at her most vulnerable.
Think of the scene where Dewey arrives in S2 and Sidney rushes into his arms to hug him, her annoying surrogate big brother who had to make sure she was okay, and it meant the world to her. Any time Sid sees Dewey for the first time in a movie, there is so much relief and love in her eyes. He was her brother.
Then he died. At the hands of a random Ghostface who had zero connection to him or her. After surviving so much and being vital to ending the original GF murders, he was just a random victim of the plague Roman, Billy, and Stu started.
That’s gotta hit Sid. And it should be used to taunt Gale as well for obvious reasons.
If Sidney is having nightmares, Dewey’s death should be a part of them. If this is AI or Deepfakes, there is no crueler way to taunt Sid than turning Dewey’s image against her.
Either way, this is the opportunity to give Arquette the send off he deserves after a lame afterthought of a death in S5. And I really hope Williamson takes it. And if he does, I hope it’s the one they keep under wraps. Imagine how crazy the theater would go on opening night when Sidney suddenly gets FaceTimed by “Dewey.”
