This Game is not getting the attention it deserves
I think Synduality Echo of Ada is a fantastic gaming experience. It's far from perfect, but this is a solid game that if a strong community rallies around it - I think can lead to some substantial improvements over time that will be something special.
I'll preface the rest of my post with this: I'm a sucker for Mecha games. I love Armored acore 6, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, Daemon X Machina, Megaton Musashi, and now this! However, I had never in my life played an extraction shooter, heck I barely even know what an extraction shooter is.
So what's the game and who is it for? If I had to use other games to describe this I would call it 'Death Stranding Armored Animal Crossing Core'. I think if you're a fan of any of those games there's something for you here, with Armored Core actually being the least present aside from the superficial - it's got Mechs.
The game has very solid movement, decent shooting, sub par enemy AI, but the real beauty and fun of the game lies in the careful balance of relaxing Animal Crossing / insert favorite cozy game with a sprinkle of Death Stranding, along with hard hitting deadly combat and social experiment a la Hideo Kojima. It's a very fun game with a compelling game loop.
What do I think needs to improve?
More maps. Straight up, there are 2 maps. We need more.
More weapons, maybe I'm still in the early game (20 hours) but we could use some funner / more interesting weapons.
Co-op options - the game allows you to team up on the field with others but doesn't seem to support straight up co op. I think it should. This would be easy to balance and work with.
Pve only option - If you don't want to pvp, you should be able to play with others that share that feeling.
Offline Core game loop mode - If the game fails it'd be great if they let you play in the same 2 maps just grinding out your stuff and getting whatever you want. The singeplayer missions are fun and very shooter centric, but the core game loop is a lot of fun and I could see fans of cozy games just wanting to upgrade their base to the max and craft EVERYTHING. Give us that option.
What the Internet is moaning about?
Battlepasses - You have 90 days. I got into the game 4 days ago and I'm already 1/6 of the way through unlocking it all. Do you guys like the game or do you like feeling accomplished of unlocking everything in a battle pass in as fast as possible. Take a chill pill, slow down, and have fun. Animal Crossing literally made people wait an entire real day for something to build. Chill out.
Paid Battlepass perks - Yo they have to monetize somewhere. Running online servers ain't free. You don't like it in a paid game that costs $40? Don't buy the battle pass. Have fomo and can't bear it? Thats your problem. Not the game's. They're preying on you. You deserve it. Seek help for that or plop down the very affordable $10. It's not pay to win, and you can literally unlock all of the mechs and good stuff without paying.
Losing gear upon death - Yep. It sucks. Happened to me. Out of 30+ runs I've died thrice. It sucks. It happens. Ever played a roguelike? Ever played Dark Souls and lost your souls? It sucks. It's part of the game. Losing gear you paid real money for? Sucks even more. Don't spend real money... Or spend it and understand it's part of the experience. Therein lies the spice.
The Internet is a nasty place and if you read through the things people are complaining about a lot of is frankly people with fomo who seem to want to unlock everything ASAP when you have 90 days to clear a battle pass that is not hard to clear...
Give this game a shot folks. It needs more maps. It needs more content, but if you start slamming the game over the practices that are employed in literally EVERY online game, this game will suffer a swift death, when it really oughta be given a chance to shine, flourish, and blossom into the truly special experience it can be.
To all the Drifters out there, keep drifting, and for anyone who is curious or on the fence about the game, give it a shot. It's $40. Dying sucks be aware of that. Insurance in the game is cheap and worth it. But it does not replace your gear, just gives you a lot of money back. Keep those things in mind and realize at the end of the day it's just a game. You lost that thing you worked harder for? The next shiny object is right around the corner. You're probably gonna lose that too, but you've always got something to look forward to and death is not as devastating as the Internet it trying to make it out to be.
Have fun and would love to hear some thoughts from y'all on this!
