Applying for 15 hours free childcare
Our daughter is about to turn 3 so we want to apply for 15 hrs free childcare to mitigate the crazy nursery fees we’re paying. (£2,900 per month at the moment!)
We tried applying online and got the following message. "You won't be eligible for Tax-Free Childcare or Free Childcare For Working Parents because you earn more than the maximum income level. You'll still be eligible for 15 hours free childcare and should speak to your childcare provider to find out more."
We contacted the nursery who said we need to call HMRC. We called HMRC who said we need to call the local council. The local said we need to speak to the nursery. So we’re going in loops not getting anywhere. Does anyone here have any experience navigating the maze we found ourselves in?
Husband’s pretax salary is £93.5k and he is a British citizen as is our daughter. My pretax salary is £140k however I personally don’t qualify for assistance due to my visa type as an expat employee.
Edit: Dear all, I clearly touched a nerve by making this post. I am not denying that we're high earners or that we're in a privileged position due to our income compared to most in this country.
However HMRC website said we're eligible for this funding, I'm not trying to fraud my way into receiving support that I'm not allowed. I'm not trying to break the law.
I'm personally not the reason for the state of depressed low salaries in this country nor the centuries old class/income inequalities that's weaved into the fabric of British public. I'm an immigrant woman from Turkey who married a British dude from a tiny village in Norfolk. I'm the first person in my family who went to university, my husband's parents are carers who work for the local community. We're not the aristo old money types that you think we are.
I wish more support for everyone who needs it, I would vote for it if I could. I wish our tax revenue is spent on public needs as opposed to arming Israel to bomb kids in Gaza or provide tax cuts to multinational companies so that they can improve their profit margins for shareholders.
Wishing you all the best, have a good evening.
