I’m really trying to like Rhis’ character, but I just cannot
I know many people like his character and I sorta get what SJM did with him and Feyre, but it didn’t really sit right with me. I didn’t finish all of the books yet, though. Just the first one and more than half of the second, so I know I might get to warm on him. Does he get better?
Edit to add: I also really like Tamlin’s character. Or, well, the idea of his character, I guess? It feels like SJM always intended to pair Feyre with Rhys (I accidentally spoiled myself on that from the start), but I genuinely believe Tamlin loved Feyre. When I think about how he cared for her family in the first book and tried to save her, even at the cost of his own destroyed future, I can’t help but feel the love and admiration he had for her, even if at start he just tried to break the curse. Those moment made me think, ‘Okay, SJM is going to have to balance his love with something equally bad, now.’ So, whenever he does something that puts me off, I just remind myself it’s part of the plot and what the autor wanted ( even though, i know it’s not the corect way of thinking) —but honestly, things could’ve gone differently. I mean, how can you go in three monts from: "i went through hell and back to save you and everyone else because i love you more than and i ever imagined and vice versa" to "🤔on second thoughs…" . Even with all the trauma consuming him to change like that, it doesn’t make sense. I'm more understanding of Feyre's trauma and changes. She did literally go through hell again and again for him and everyone else, and the sudden change of her lover in the months after didn't help at all. Book 1 Tamlin would never, and that's what annoys me the most, really.
