Thoughts on immigrants moving in to Barrie
My wife and I are planning to buy our first house this year and we believe Barrie would be a good fit given our current situations and preferences. We both work from home, so a long commute isn't a concern.
I'm curious about the attitudes of long-term Barrie residents towards newcomers, particularly immigrants (we are South Asian). I've read many threads on this subreddit and have mixed feelings. While most people seem welcoming, there are some with seriously racist views towards immigrants, specifically brown people. I am aware of the nuisances created by a bunch of idiots during the Diwali celebration or the parties that get thrown blocking the streets (in Brampton mostly), but I believe more than 95% south asians are law abiding, peace loving citizens who have nothing to do with these.
I still believe that Canadians are very warm and welcoming people, and this belief is what brought me to this wonderful country. However, I don't want to find myself in a situation years down the line where my neighbors don't treat me like everyone else simply because of my skin color. I would like to hear your perspectives on this.
