Talk me through it

I’ve had dogs before, all labs, but this is my first season with a GSP. I think I’ve done all the pre-season training and I have him motivated and excited about scents and finding dummies and working through some thick brush. My question is…..on the day of the hunt, how do you get him “turned on” and ready to go work a field?? My thought was to give me something covered in the training scent and get him excited and then lower the tail gate and release him into the field. Any help is appreciated!
