New interest, want to learn

I've recently developed an interest in owning snakes. I've read corn snakes are good "beginner" snakes (I'm well aware how stupid the term is, since it's a living thing that one needs to care for, not a hobby like sewing). I read they're quite friendly, on the easier side to care for and don't get too large. I just am generally interesting, but not ready financially or any way for a snake. I just want to learn about them because I'd like to one day learn. I will spend actual years researching before taking on a snake if it ends up being right for me. I did it for hedgehogs to the point that the articles printed for me to learn about hedgehogs were ones I had memorized and I was teaching the shelter workers about the animal instead.

What are some basic things I should learn about? Best enclosures, substrate? What's the best diet. Should live plants be in the enclosure? Handling tips? Literally anything you wish you knew as a beginner that those silly little articles we all read as beginner owners thought were life-saving reads failed to tell us? What are trustworthy sources for learning about corn snakes? Fill me with your beautiful corn snake knowledge, please, I am begging!

Also, what are pros and cons of owning snakes, specifically corn snakes? If anyone here has multiple breeds, what's been your favorite and why?

Sorry for the long post, I just don't want to be seen as someone not willing to put in the effort. My animals are my life, they're family to me:)
