Why Lynch movies are never in conversation about great cinematography
I know it may sound amateurish or I may make an impression of a person who has never read a lot of literature or critical writing on cinema, but from my perspective Lynch movies are never in conversation about great cinematography/beautiful visual side of movies.
David Lean, Kubrick, Malick, Kurosawa, Paul Thomas Anderson and others are always in top of lists about greatest cinematography. I have never read a piece or saw a video praising Lynch movies for visuals. Like it's almost an afterthought or no thought at all in criticism of Lynch works. Set design, audio design, working with actors yes, cinematography no.
Honestly I find it pretty amusing taking into an account that Lynch first and foremost is a painter and visual artist and only then he is a filmmaker. And for me his movies are insane achievement in terms of visual and an unparalleled beauty. Why do you think Lynch cinematography never gets it praise?
