Senate health committee schedules hearing on bill allowing unsupervised practice of medicine by pharmacists

The Senate Health and Provider Services Committee has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, Feb. 12, on Senate Bill 145, a bill allowing pharmacists to diagnose patients and prescribe medication without a physician’s involvement.

SB 145 would allow pharmacists to test and issue prescriptions on their own accord for flu, RSV, strep throat, lice, or “minor skin conditions,” despite pharmacists’ lack of training to examine and diagnose patients or distinguish among ailments with similar symptoms.
