Vaginal cuff repair horror story ⚠️
Trigger warning ⚠️ graphic gross descriptions, could be nauseating, disturbing or traumatizing to some.
10/22/24 laproscopic hysterectomy (cervix uterus and tube's removed). Light bleeding started on 10/28/24. On my 2wpo 11/05/24 my doctor said the incision looked slightly infected. I have Cellulitis now but its not terrible she says. She cauterized the stitches with silver nitrate and prescribed 2 weeks of Flagyl antibiotics and scheduled another follow-up in 2 weeks.
Caveat-- I also have Crohn's disease, endometriosis, and had adenomyosis. The Flagyl started to cause diarrhea. 5 days of diarrhea later and im probably dehydrated. Thanks crohn's 🫠 I have bled bright pink blood since 6dpo. But it was not alot. Pantyliner full --if i wore it all day. Mainly it was every time i sat down to use the 1 restroom. But things started to improve in the last 2 days. Energy was coming back. Abs hurt less. I was like "whatchout.... she's baaaack 😁" Still taking it easy. I lay out on the couch and start making tiktoks of my pup 🐶 And as I stood up to go show my man my new tiktok, a huge gush fell out my vagina and ran down my pants. 🤯 I've never carried to term but I can imagine it probably feels like your water breaking. I ran to the bathroom and when I pulled down my pants, this huge red blob falls onto the floor and as I'm standing fresh blood is running profusely down my legs. I scream for my fiance and he comes running into the murder scene. He lays a towel down on the bed and I lay down. We realize when I lay flat the blood isn't gushing. And there is no pain. How?? So we plan to drive to the ER. Its the same hospital connected where i had my surgery. So they have all the info. Safest bet we thought. My puppy screams as she hears us leaving. She's a German Shepherd and can smell the blood. I lay flat in the front seat on top of towels and hold on to the handles to stabilize. I start to get dizzy, see black spots and am close to passing out. Its a 30 minute drive. We made it in 17, I'm told. My man ran in the ER and got help immediately. Nurses come out to me in the car with a wheelchair--but I am terrified to sit up. They just reach in, pull me out of the car and transfer me to the wheelchair. Blood just starts gushing out all down my pants. We brought towels and they are now completely soaked through. They start asking questions but i go into shock and i am unable to answer. I legit think that my vaginal cuff fell out and I'm hemorrhaging internally. They wheel me through the waiting room and I'm uncontrollably crying and in a hysteria. And cannot seem to gain control, despite my best efforts. Next thing I know I'm surrounded by doctors and nurses triaging me. Im being stripped and prepped. Iv is started. It felt like a nightmare or one of those medical tv shows... Unreal. Where am I? Words are hard.. I can barely say my name. Luckily my man knew all the info. And he even brought the blob to the ER with us to show the doctors. 😆 They drag my body to the end of the bed with my ass hanging off. And the doctors dig in. My man says they were pulling all the blobs and dropping them on the floor. 😝 Apparently they are called liver clots. They are huge and that built up in just 5 days after my 2 wpo appointment. They finally get to the incision and say there's cellulitis and a hole in the cuff where the blood is gushing from. They say the antibiotics shrunk the tissue and created the hole. I can hear the doctors saying its not supposed to look like that. Emergency surgery is ordered. The obgyn consults with my obgyn and they decide on the surgical plan. I'm stitched back up with barbed wire this time, Doc says. She stays with me the entire visit 😳 I received the best care. And i am so grateful for them 🙏 Honestly I didn't think I was going to make it. I had many epiphanies during this experience. It was very eye opening.
The pain is now back due to the stitches. But I'm released with a follow up with my doctor in a week.
Also, worth noting, i did not have ANY internal penetration. I followed the rules to the t. I'm home now but I started bleeding again. Not profusely but back to the slow drip. The ER doctor said to try and limit the number of bathroom trips to reduce the pressure. Use antidiarrheal meds if i have to. I have been despera/tely trying to figure out how to help heal the vaginal cuff. For me, it looks like there is too much pressure when I'm sitting up, standing or going to the restroom. So im limiting those activities until my followup. Laying flat definitely reduces the bleeding. So I am resigned to the bed for a little while longer.
Hospital paperwork stated:
General Operative Findings: Cuff edges with partial separation on left. Superficial dehiscence, it did not extend into the peritoneal cavity. Cuff edges with some bleeding with manipulation. No drainage, no erythema, and no signs of infection.
Just want to share my experience with you guys in case it helps. This page has helped me so much through this.
