RANT about interview I was sought after for.

This week someone reached out to me on LinkedIn pretty much saying they want me to apply for a recruiting role with Oliver James in NYC. We did a quick teams call that day and I was offered an interview right after the call for the next day.

I’m coming from a background of wine, marketing, and sales. I felt the interview went great and I was genuinely excited for a shot at recruiting since I feel I have extremely strong relationship building skills. I was honest in the interview that before being reached out to recruiting wasn’t something I thought of but after my talk with the person who reached out I did a bunch of research and genuinely was excited.

Today I was told although I have the qualifications they felt like I wasn’t able to ‘paint the whole picture’ on why I wanted to leave wine for recruiting which I’m a little gobspacked by. They literally recruited me the day before and heavily mentioned you don’t need any experience in recruiting. Moreover, during my talk before the interview they were saying how well my experience in wine sales translates over.

I explained the basics of what 360 recruiting is. I thought I explained well why I would enjoy recruiting- rewarding due to hard work that pays off, rewarding helping match people with jobs, and how I love and want a job where I interact with people.

Idk I’m just bitter rn I guess because my previous roles are a wine store manager at a local small wine shop and then a winery sales rep which I was laid off from in October due to the companies finances. I finally felt like my experience would pay off here.
