Why do people love so much ultra-wide angle photos?

I don't know if it's just me, but since basically all the smartphones started to come with the ultra-wide camera, people seem to have a sort of fetish for ultra-wide shots, and take them randomly in contexts where they make no sense imo. It's weird if I think that many people use to care about phones performances and want to buy the rather expensive ones, so they might care about the camera as well, but also they should know that ultra-wide camera always come with less quality than the main one.

I think ultra wide shots are useful mainly in interior photography, and are only functional to give as much information as possible about a certain space... But otherwise these wide angle pics just shrink the subjects and make big objects deformed. Idk why people love this so much. The whole perception of space is just ruined even more than a normal camera already does. I find funny also that chichè you hear that ultra-wide cameras are made for catching landscapes, which also I think is completly wrong... You'll rather use a horizontal 16:9 photo or maybe a panoramic mode photo to obtain a far better result imo, wide angled pics just very easily ruin the sense of space and size of things.
