Am I making a mistake applying to a MSP?

Currently a SysAdmin reporting to a director. In my early 30s with 9 years in IT. Boss likes me and has insinuated I would take his place a few years down the road. It’s a decent sized company: 2000~ employees with around 20 IT personnel. I have 4 direct reports below me. I am getting bored. We have a great budget so we can implement basically whatever we want. I feel like this is making me lose my skills because all of our solutions do all the work for me. Pay is decent, benefits are just ok.

I applied to a Net Admin position for a smaller local MSP and have an interview later this week. Expecting similar pay, probably better benefits. Current position is my third IT job, around 9 years experience. I’ve never worked for an MSP and they seem to be frowned upon in this sub. I’m trying to decide if I should ride out where I’m at, or if I’m making a mistake by looking elsewhere, especially to a MSP. There are lots of anti-MSP posts here, just wondering if anyone has experience of working at an MSP and actually liking it.
