How did Al become Al?

What happened in Al's life that made him so scared of everything. He constantly brings up worst case scenarios. He now wears a body camera when walking the streets from his car to the office. He's mentioned driving out to Shea stadium as a kid with family and being scared of cars abandoned on the shoulder. He thinks he's going to get robbed at 2am when getting gas. He thinks the entire states of Oregon and Washington are one giant city run by antifa. His panic story when leaving the Superbowl a few yrs ago....

What causes such irrational fear?
